Stylorouge met Skin from Skunk Anansie when we were asked to create alternative packaging for her first solo album Fleshwounds in 2003. A photoshoot was set up with Rob O’Connor to take place before and after an outdoor show in Italy, timed to capture the humid summer heat – the back of a tour truck serving as a surrogate photo studio and thereby creating an even sweatier environment to shoot in.
Two years later, Skin was back in the studio and Derek Santini behind the camera for the sleeve shoot for the release of her follow-up Fake Chemical State. This shoot was even less delicately located, in the toilets of an Ibiza club – again, Stylorouge were on design duties.
Twelve years later, the eternernally youthful role model was recognised by Music Week; in the magazine’s Women in Music Awards, Skin was awarded the title Women in Music Inspirational Artist.
Also in 2018, Stylorouge have created packaging and a campaign to announce Skunk Anansie’s 25th anniversary which arrives next year, during which a summer full of festival and arena gigs is planned alongside the release of a major live retrospective album 25Live@25 in a plethora of formats.
PR shots were taken and we filmed the band discussing the tracks on the album in the Soho live room of Gibson Guitars. 2019 is set to be a big year for the band.
