Born in Israel of mixed Persian and Moroccan parentage, Mor Karbasi created even more of a cultural melange when developing her music career by opting to write and sing in Spanish and Sephardic, the language of the exiled Jews of Spain. Her music is immersed in her fascination and respect for her historic Spanish ancestry…
Now based in Jerusalem she travels the world to record and perform live, and is likened to artists such as Mariza and Yasmin Levy, who is something of a musical role model for Mor.
She flew in to London last December to film a Rob O’Connor-directed video for the title track of her new album Ojos de Novia, and discuss the sleeve design, which has also been created by Stylorouge. (Design by Mark Higenbottam, photography by Rob O’Connor).
The album will be released ready for the Summer, during which Mor is planning a busy schedule of live shows, details of which are yet to be announced.
